Showcase

[ 2014 ]

The Showcase is a unique venue in Paris, located at the foot of the Alexandre III Bridge, facing the Seine River.

To successfully rehabilitate this club, our approach focused on a powerful idea: embracing the presence of the stone structure, which consists of supporting columns and barrel-vaulted ceilings, and working with the fluidity of movement perpendicular to the direction of these arches. The main axis becomes the DJ booth, facing the Seine, with the public unfolding on two levels in between. This creates a real sense of openness between each arch. The aim was to ensure that the DJ is visible from every point in the venue.

The direction of the three arches—serving as the entrance and exit to the club—becomes a secondary axis.

To organize the space, we played with different levels: the DJ is positioned on a movable platform 1 meter above the ground, while the two bars in the central arch face the DJ and are each spread across two levels, linking the three arches.

The central level, situated between the two bars, is the highest point, offering a view over the entire club. The last arch, facing the Seine, becomes a quieter area and acts as a sound buffer zone.

To differentiate from the historical and heavy presence of stone, we chose a lightweight material that would be easy to implement: multi-ply pine. This material gives the furniture a very ephemeral style and allowed us to preserve the original architecture of the venue without altering it.
